Visits, Events, and Conversions are closely related, but they measure different stages of user behavior. Understanding the difference helps you interpret your funnels correctly.

Visits.

A Visit represents a session on your website.

  • Each time a user lands on your site, a visit is counted.

  • Visits measure traffic volume, not engagement or success.

Example: A user lands on your homepage → 1 visit.

Events.

An Event represents a specific action a user performs during a visit.

  • Events are captured by the GrowthOptix Tracking Script.

  • Examples include:

    • Page views

    • Signups

    • Form submissions

    • Purchases

    • Upsells

A single visit can generate multiple events, or none.

Conversions.

A Conversion is a meaningful event you define as a goal.

  • Conversions typically include:

    • Lead events

    • Sale events

    • Upsell events

  • Conversions are derived from events, not from visits.

Example:
A visit → 3 page views → 1 signup → 1 conversion.

How They Work Together.

  • Visits show how many users arrive.

  • Events show what users do.

  • Conversions show whether goals are achieved.

This relationship powers key metrics like Conversion Rate, CAC, and ROI.

Why This Matters

Confusing these concepts can lead to:

  • Inflated expectations.

  • Misinterpreted funnels.

  • Incorrect conclusions about performance.

Clear definitions lead to better decisions.

Quick Summary.

  • Visits = traffic.

  • Events = actions.

  • Conversions = successful outcomes.
