Clicks Difference

Clicks Difference shows the difference between the clicks reported by your connected ad platforms and the clicks captured through GrowthOptix Website Tracking.

Written by Luis Schiffmann

This metric helps you compare platform-side click data with website-side tracking data from the GrowthOptix Tracking Script.

How Clicks Difference is measured

GrowthOptix calculates Clicks Difference by comparing:

  • Ad Platform Clicks, reported by connected platforms such as Google Ads, Meta, or Microsoft Advertising.

  • Website Tracking Clicks, captured by the GrowthOptix Tracking Script when users reach your website.

In simple terms: Clicks Difference = Ad Platform Clicks - Website Tracking Clicks

Where to find Clicks Difference

You can find Clicks Difference in the Data Table View within the Ad Platforms section of the Marketing Attribution dashboard.

What Clicks Difference means

Clicks Difference helps you understand whether there is a gap between the clicks reported by your ad platforms and the clicks detected on your website.

For example:

  • If the difference is high, your ad platform may be reporting more clicks than GrowthOptix is detecting on your website.

  • If the difference is low, your ad platform clicks and website-tracked clicks are closely aligned.

  • If the difference is zero, both values match for the selected view and date range.

Example

Let’s say Google Ads reports 1,000 clicks for a campaign.

For the same campaign, GrowthOptix Website Tracking captures 920 clicks through the GrowthOptix Tracking Script.

GrowthOptix calculates:

Clicks Difference = 1,000 - 920

Clicks Difference = 80

This means there is a difference of 80 clicks between what the ad platform reported and what was captured on your website.

Why Clicks Difference matters

Clicks Difference helps you identify possible gaps between ad platform reporting and website tracking.

Differences may happen because:

  • Users click an ad but leave before the website fully loads.

  • The GrowthOptix Tracking Script does not load correctly.

  • UTMs or tracking parameters are removed during redirects.

  • Ad platforms and website tracking use different counting methods.

  • Ad platform data updates at a different time than website tracking data.

This metric is useful for checking tracking quality and understanding how much of your paid traffic is actually reaching your website.

Limitations and important notes

Clicks Difference is expected to vary in some cases.

Ad platforms count clicks inside their own systems, while GrowthOptix counts website activity once users reach your site and the GrowthOptix Tracking Script loads.

Because of this, the numbers may not always match exactly.
