Average CPC

Average CPC, or Average Cost Per Click, shows the average amount you paid for each click on your ads.

Written by Luis Schiffmann

This metric helps you understand how efficiently your ad budget is generating traffic.

How Average CPC is measured

GrowthOptix calculates Average CPC by dividing total ad spend by total clicks.

In simple terms: Average CPC = Spend / Clicks

This means GrowthOptix looks at how much was spent on ads and compares it against the number of clicks generated.

Where to find Average CPC

You can find Average CPC in the Data Table View within the Ad Platforms section of the Marketing Attribution dashboard.

What Average CPC means

Average CPC helps you understand how much each ad click costs on average.

For example:

  • A lower Average CPC may mean your campaigns are generating clicks more efficiently.

  • A higher Average CPC may mean your ads are more expensive to drive traffic.

  • A rising Average CPC may indicate increased competition, audience changes, or campaign performance issues.

Example

Let’s say a campaign spent $1,000 and generated 500 clicks.

GrowthOptix calculates:

Average CPC = $1,000 / 500

Average CPC = $2.00

This means each click cost an average of $2.00.

Why Average CPC matters

Average CPC helps you evaluate the cost efficiency of your ad campaigns.

This metric is useful for understanding:

  • How much you are paying for traffic.

  • Which campaigns generate clicks at a lower cost.

  • Whether your ad spend is becoming more or less efficient.

  • How CPC relates to conversions, sales, revenue, ROI, and ROAS.

Average CPC is especially useful when reviewed alongside Spend, Clicks, Conversion Rate, Cost Per Lead, Cost Per Sale, ROI, and ROAS.

Limitations and important notes

Average CPC depends on spend and click data from connected ad platforms.

Differences or unexpected values may happen because of:

  • Delays in ad platform reporting.

  • Missing or disconnected ad platform data.

  • Date range differences.

  • Campaigns with spend but no clicks.

  • Differences between ad platform clicks and website-tracked clicks.

If clicks are zero or missing, Average CPC may show as zero, blank, or unavailable depending on the reporting view.
