ROAS difference

ROAS Difference shows the difference between the ROAS calculated from GrowthOptix Website Tracking and the ROAS reported by your connected ad platforms.

Written by Luis Schiffmann

This metric helps you compare revenue performance based on website-side tracking against the ROAS reported directly by platforms such as Google Ads, Meta, or Microsoft Advertising.

How ROAS Difference is measured

GrowthOptix calculates ROAS Difference by comparing:

  • Website Tracking ROAS, based on revenue attributed through the GrowthOptix Tracking Script.

  • Ad Platform ROAS, reported by connected advertising platforms.

In simple terms: ROAS Difference = Website Tracking ROAS - Ad Platform ROAS

Where to find ROAS Difference

You can find ROAS Difference in the Data Table View within the Ad Platforms section of the Marketing Attribution dashboard.

What ROAS Difference means

ROAS Difference helps you understand whether GrowthOptix and your ad platforms are reporting similar return on ad spend values.

For example:

  • If the value is positive, Website Tracking ROAS is higher than the ROAS reported by the ad platform.

  • If the value is negative, the ad platform is reporting higher ROAS than GrowthOptix Website Tracking.

  • If the value is zero, both ROAS values match for the selected view and date range.

Example

Let’s say GrowthOptix Website Tracking calculates a ROAS of 2.40 for a campaign.

For the same campaign, the connected ad platform reports a ROAS of 2.00.

GrowthOptix calculates:

ROAS Difference = 2.40 - 2.00

ROAS Difference = 0.40

This means Website Tracking ROAS is 0.40 higher than the ROAS reported by the ad platform.

Why ROAS Difference happens

ROAS Difference can happen because GrowthOptix and ad platforms may calculate ROAS using different data sources, attribution rules, and reporting windows.

Common reasons include:

  • Different attribution models: GrowthOptix may attribute revenue based on website tracking, while ad platforms use their own attribution logic.

  • Different conversion windows: Ad platforms may count conversions within specific attribution windows that differ from GrowthOptix.

  • Revenue tracking differences: GrowthOptix uses revenue tracked and attributed through your website setup, while ad platforms may estimate or receive conversion values differently.

  • Tracking script behavior: GrowthOptix depends on the GrowthOptix Tracking Script loading correctly on your website.

  • Ad platform delays: Platforms may update clicks, conversions, spend, or ROAS after the initial reporting period.

  • Missing or inconsistent UTMs: If campaign tracking parameters are missing or changed, attribution may differ.

  • Refunds or revenue adjustments: Revenue changes may be reflected differently depending on the data source and timing.

Because of these differences, ROAS values may not always match exactly across systems.

Why ROAS Difference matters

ROAS Difference helps you identify gaps between platform-reported performance and website-tracked performance.

This metric is useful for understanding:

  • Whether ad platform ROAS aligns with GrowthOptix-tracked revenue.

  • Which campaigns have reporting discrepancies.

  • Whether tracking or attribution setup needs review.

  • How much confidence to place in platform-reported ROAS.

  • Whether your website tracking and ad platform data are telling the same story.

It is especially useful when reviewed alongside Revenue, Spend, ROAS, ROI, Conversions Difference, Clicks Difference, and Cost Per Sale.

Limitations and important notes

ROAS Difference is expected to vary in some cases.

Ad platforms calculate ROAS using their own reporting rules, conversion windows, attribution models, and platform-side data. GrowthOptix calculates Website Tracking ROAS based on revenue and activity captured through your tracking setup.

Because of this, ROAS Difference should be used as a diagnostic metric, not as a sign that something is automatically wrong.

Need help?

If the ROAS Difference looks higher or lower than expected, check that your ad platforms are connected, that spend is syncing, and that the GrowthOptix Tracking Script is installed correctly.
