Adding UTM parameters ensures that traffic from your campaigns is properly tracked inside the GrowthOptix Marketing Attribution dashboard, allowing you to accurately analyze campaign performance and conversions.
Video Walkthrough
Watch the video below for a step-by-step walkthrough of the setup process.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Open the UTM Manager in GrowthOptix
Log in to your GrowthOptix account.
Navigate to the UTM Manager located in the left section of the platform.
From there, click Create UTM to generate a new tracking link.
GrowthOptix provides predefined templates for different advertising platforms, including Microsoft Ads.
Step 2: Select the Microsoft Ads Template
Choose the Microsoft Ads template from the list of available ad platforms.
GrowthOptix will automatically generate the tracking parameters required for Microsoft Ads campaigns.
These parameters allow GrowthOptix to identify where traffic is coming from and which campaigns are generating results.
Step 3: Copy the Tracking Parameters
Once the template is generated, click Copy to Clipboard to copy the tracking parameters.
Then click Save so the configuration is stored in GrowthOptix and can be accessed later if needed.
If you have previously set up tracking for Google Ads, this process will feel very similar.
Finally, you will see the Microsoft UTM you just created.
Step 4: Open Your Microsoft Ads Account
Next, log in to your Microsoft Advertising account.
Navigate to:
Campaigns → Settings
Scroll down until you find the section for Final URL Suffix.
This is where the tracking parameters will be added.
Step 5: Paste the Final URL Suffix
Paste the tracking parameters you copied from GrowthOptix into the Final URL Suffix field.
You will see parameters such as:
utm_source=
utm_medium=
utm_campaign=
These parameters allow GrowthOptix to track the origin of each click and associate it with the correct campaign.
Step 6: Understand the Campaign Tracking ID
One of the key parameters included in the template is the Ad ID, which allows GrowthOptix to identify the specific ad that generated the click.
Microsoft Ads automatically populates these values when the ad is clicked, providing detailed attribution data.
Step 7: Be Aware of Tracking Hierarchy
Microsoft Ads uses a hierarchy system for tracking parameters.
Tracking can be set at several levels:
• Account level.
• Campaign level.
• Ad group level.
• Ad level.
If tracking parameters are configured at a lower level (such as ad or ad group), they will override the settings configured at the account level.
For this reason, it's important to verify that no other tracking templates are already configured at these levels.
Step 8: Save Your Settings
Once the parameters have been pasted into the Final URL Suffix field, click Save.
Your Microsoft Ads campaigns are now configured to send tracking data to GrowthOptix.
Tracking Is Now Enabled
Once this setup is complete, traffic from your Microsoft Ads campaigns will include the UTM parameters needed for GrowthOptix to correctly attribute visits and conversions.
This data will automatically appear in the Marketing Attribution dashboard, allowing you to analyze campaign performance across channels.
